The ability to integrate and communicate between laboratory experiments with numerical modelling is an increasing important skill to collaborate and work successfully within the interdisciplinary field of marine science. The 2017 Hjort Summer School will train the next generation of marine scientists in linking and communicating across laboratory- and numerical modelling approaches.
The Program: To achieve a better understanding of the connectivity of lab and modelling work, the 2017 Hjort Summer School has a strong focus on hands-on work. Accompanied by lectures, students will conduct lab experiments and link them to modelling experiences using examples highly relevant to the changing marine environment of today like mixotrophy, zooplankton fecal pellet production and carbon export.
Students are also asked to prepare a poster-presentation of their own research. Upon completion, they receive a course diploma with a recommended 3 ECTS.
Participants, Costs: The course is aimed at earlier career scientists and students within the field of marine sciences. All course costs (accommodation & food) are covered, however travels will have to be paid by the student. A limited number of travel grants is available (for details see application form).
